Das Visum (The visa)

Vor ein paar Tagen hatte ich meinen Termin im Konsulat Berlin, von dem abhing, ob ich nun mein Visum für die USA bekomme oder nicht.

Meine Mutter und ich haben damit einen Kurztripp nach Berlin verbunden und ein wenig Sightseeing gemacht, aber erst einmal das Wichtigste: Das Visum. 

In der Nacht vor meinem Termin hatte ich einen Haufen Alpträume, wieso ich zum Beispiel gar nicht erst ins Konsulat hinein käme oder was ich vergessen hätte und deswegen das Visum nicht bekommen könnte.

Im Endeffekt hatte ich dann tatsächlich etwas vergessen: meine Terminbestätigung. Aber ich bin auch ohne sie hereingekommen und es war gar kein Problem. 

Draußen musste man erst einmal Schlange stehen, da immer nur fünf Leute auf einmal in das Konsulat gelassen wurden, dann musste man sich in einem Vorhäusschen quasi anmelden und die Taschen ausleeren und durchleuchten lassen etc, offenbar läuft es genau so am Flughafen, nur, dass man dort natürlich Taschen mit hinnehmen darf. 

Danach mussten wir jedenfalls noch einmal kurz warten, bis wir ins Haupthaus durften, wo wir - Überraschung! - noch einmal in einer Schlange warten durften. An dem Schalter am Ende der Schlange sollte ich dann meinen Reisepass vorzeigen, die SEVIS-Quittung und das DS-2019 Formular, diese Sachen behielt das Konsulat erst einmal. Die DS-160 Betsätigungsseite musste ich nur vorzeigen und konnte sie danach wieder in meine Mappe tun. Nach dem Foto für das Visum wird dort auch gefragt, ich hatte Gott sei Dank ein passendes, welches sie dann auch behalten haben. 

Danach hieß es wieder warten, bis man aufgerufen wurde. 

Ich wurde mit zwei anderen Mädchen aufgerufen und musste an einem Schalter meine Fingerabdrücke abgeben, danach konnte ich mich wieder setzen und weiter warten. Beim nächsten Mal, das ich aufgerufen wurde, wurden mir dann zwei Fragen gestellt, nämlich, ob ich Au Pair werden möchte und wo genau es hingeht. Danach hat der Mann am Schalter einfach nur mein DS-2019 Formular abgestempelt und irgendetwas angekreuzt und mir das mit der SEVIS-Zahlungsbescheinigung zurückgegeben und gesagt 'Your visa has been approved', also, dass ich mein Visum habe. 

Tatsächlich habe ich also den Nachweis über genügend finanzielle Mittel, also einen Kontoauszug über 500€ oder eine Bürgschaft der Eltern, im Notfall für den Rückflug aufzukommen. 

Inzwischen ist auch der Reisepass mit Visum angekommen, es hat nur drei Tage gedauert.

A few days ago I had my appointment in the consulate in Berlin to get my visa. 

My mother and I combined a short trip to Berlin with this and did a bit sightseeing. But the most important thing at first: the visa,

In the night before my appointment I had a lot of nightmares about how everything could go wrong, so I won't even get into the consulate or what I forgot so they couldn't approve my visa. 

In the end I actually forgot my appointment confirmation, , but I got in without it and it didn't seem to be a problem. 

Outside I first had to stand in line, because only five people were allowed to go in at the same time, after that I had to register in a kind of forehouse, where I also had to empty my pockets and they would check me like they do on the airport (which I don't know for sure, because I never did fly). 

After that I had to wait once more, before I could go into the main house, whre I had to wait in line again - surprise! On the counter I had to show them my appointment confirmation - which I didn't have-, my DS -2019 formular, my DS-160 confirmation, my passport and the SEVIS payment confirmation. The DS-160 I could take with me right after I showed it to them, but they kept the SEVIS and the DS-2019 and my passport - with a photo that fit the provisions of the visa. 

After that I had to wait again until I got called, with three others. They took our fingerprints, after that we could sit down again and wait until we got called again. The next time I got called, the man on the counter just asked me, if I want to be an au pair and where exactly I would live, after that he just filled out the DS-2016 and gave it back to me with the SEVIS payment confirmation and just said 'Your visa has been approved.'

Actually I didn't need the proof of sufficiant funds, a statement of account of 500€, or the pledge on the return flight of my parents. 

By now my passport has returned to me, it only took three days.
