Natürlich musste ich aber erst einmal packen, was aber recht schnell ging, da ich nicht viel mitnehmen wollte und relativ genau wusste, was.
Dementsprechend kam ich auch mit dem Platz recht gut aus.
Mein Flug ging vom Frankfurter Flughafen und wir mussten um zwei Uhr nachts losfahren. Ich hatte am Tag zuvor bereits online eingecheckt, daher ging es dann am Schalter recht schnell. Danach hieß es warten, bis ich durch die Kontrolle für das Handgepäck konnte und zum Gate kam.
Und davor hieß es natürlich auch verabschieden, was doch recht hart war, weswegen ich schnell gegangen bin - durch gefühlt 1.000 Kontrollen
Im Flugzeug saß ich neben einem anderen Au Pair und habe mit ihr geredet und mir ein paar Filme angeschaut.
Bei der Landung musste ich noch einmal durch gefühlte 1.000 Kontrollen und dann ging es mit Bussen zur Training School in der St. John's University in New York (sehr weit außerhalb, hatte ich das Gefühl, wir sind zwei Stunden gefahren).
Die Universität ist ein riiieeeesiges Gelände direkt am Meer.
Mein Unterricht war in der "Mansion", also eines ziemlich großen Villa, geschlafen habe ich aber im Hauptgebäude.
Der Unterricht war im Prinzip Grundwissen zum Au Pair Jahr, zum Beispiel wie Amerikaner ihre Kinder erziehen (recht verallgemeinert) oder Gesundheit. Interessant war es, diesen Unterricht und generell die Training School mit Au Pairs aus allen möglichen Ländern zu besuchen.
Am (vor)letzten Tag haben wir eine Tour durch New York gemacht, wir haben die Freiheitsstatue von weit weg und von der Seite gesehen, den Ground Zero und das neue World Trade Center, den Times Square und Broadway und dann sind wir nach oben ins Rockefeller Center gefahren. Von da an hatten wir dann knapp drei Stunden Freizeit, bevor wir am Empire State Building wieder in die Busse steigen mussten, diese Zeit haben wir dann hauptsächlich auf dem Times Square verbracht und sind durch die Straßen New York City's gelaufen, um zum Empire State Building zu kommen.
Am nächsten Tag ging es dann auch schon zu den Familien.

On the 29th of August I finally got on my way into the unknown.
Of course at first I had to pack things, but that was pretty easy, because I didn't want to take that much with me and I knew what I wanted to take.
Because of that I also had enough space.
My flight was from the airport in Frankfurt and we had to start driving there at 2am. I had checked in online the day before, so that was really easy on the aírport. After that I had to wait to get through the control of the carry ons and to get to the gate.
And befor that it was Goodbye-time, which was actually really hard, so I just made it quick and went through the controls (felt like 1,000).
In the airplane I sat next to another au pair and talked to her and watched some movies.
After the landing I had to go through about 1,000 controls again and then we went to the training school in the St. John's University New York by bus, which lies very far from the city itself I think, because we drove for about two hours.
The university is a giant ground right by the sea.
My classes were at the "Mansion", a really big villa, but I slept in the main building.
The classes were basics for the au pair year like how Americans raine their children or health. But it was really interesting to visit these classes and the training school in general with many other au pairs from different countries.
An the (almost) last day we made a New York City Tour; we saw the Statue of Liberty from far away and the side, the Ground Zero and the new World Trade Center, the Times Square and Broadway and then we went to Top of the Rock. From this point on we had about three hours of free time before we had to get back on the busses at the Empire State Building.
This free time we spent at Top of the Rock and mainly on the Times Square and ran through the streets of New York City to get to the Empire State Building.
On the next day we went to our host families.
